Lu'an Melon Tea (六安瓜片) is a distinct green tea from Lu'an City, crafted through a method unlike any other. Unlike most green teas that rely on tender buds, this tea uses only the second leaves on each branch. Once picked, each leaf has its central vein removed to ensure consistency in taste.
The leaves are then roasted over low heat, halting oxidation while gradually shaping them into flat, oval forms that resemble melon seeds. This slow, even firing not only defines their iconic shape but also gently develops their character.
The result is a smooth, rounded cup with low bitterness, light umami depth, and a subtle toasted sweetness. The aroma is clean and grassy, with a hint of chestnut and a lightly floral finish. Every sip reflects the precise craft and centuries-old technique behind this storied tea.
